A pretty cake for a pretty lady

20 Feb2010

michelle

I got a heart-shaped silicone baking dish thing from the markets this morning, so I made a little cake for Michelle’s birthday. She’s turning 23, and the cake manages to imply she is either 20 years younger, or 80 years older. Sorry lady.

Entomology and style: Together at last!

11 Feb2010

Neuroptera

I have been screenprinting some insect shirts for Bob, and this is my first blog-worthy creation. I won’t lie, this lacewing stencil was a complete bitch, but I got there in the end, sanity intact. Next on the list: Phasmatodea (stick insects).

Attack in Black

nadiaphone

Another felt case for another iPhone. You’ll notice a distinct lack of pastel colours and floral prints. That’s because this one was a request, so my usual nana-style was not welcome here. It turned out alright though, the new owner will probably like it. Sorry if you don’t, Nadia. No refunds. Happy birthday!

It’s beginning to stink a lot like Christmas

final_big-house

Gingerbread time again. I made a big house this year- this one even has a Christmas tree INSIDE. Unfortunately, I made the dough in a bit of a daze and managed to omit the eggs, so the slabs are very tough. Teeth will be broken.

final_dress

I made myself this dress last weekend, and I’m very excited about wearing it in public at some point. I’m not really up for modeling it myself for all you creepy people on the internet, so this is what it looks like on a hedge.

finalkoalacakes

This morning I made these chocolate koala cupcakes for some American visitors. My little brother said they look nothing like koalas, but that could be because he’s a jerk.

mums-birthday

Chocolate ganache and raspberry cake for Mum’s birthday dinner tonight. I am reasonably sure I’m going to eat too much, and am wearing a loose-fitting skirt in anticipation.

Too chocolatey for most humans

chocolate-cupcakes

Chocolate bars were on special, so I thought it would be a good idea to top these chocolate fudge cakes with ganache and chunks of Crunchie, Kit Kat, Cherry Ripe, Boost and Peppermint Aero. The result was.. sickly, but to be honest, I’ll probably do it again someday. Also, sorry about the photo- I took it with my phone after getting ganache on the lens.

Crafternoon Tea

18 Aug2009

crafternoon-tea_final

Hi you guys. Sorry for the lengthy silence. Here is a sponge cake I made for my Crafternoon tea party last week. Sponge cakes are great, because they’re mostly made of air, and you need air to live, so nobody has to feel bad about eating the whole thing in one sitting.

final_heathers-purse

Another purse! For Heather this time. You may or (hopefully) may not notice how wonky it is – apparently my sewing machine did not agree with the thickness of this fabric. We got there in the end though.
